About
Built as a solution from a father’s experience.
Scott Wilmot, owner, and founder of Baby Proof Pool created his own rendition of the pool safety net when he moved into his first home in 2002. With two daughters ages 1 and 3 who had not yet learned how to swim, he needed a solution to secure his own pool. A solution that locked off the water 24/7, was easy to take off and put back on and looked aesthetically appealing.
Once he came across pool safety nets, he used his experience in construction and sailing to engineer a more durable system than had been created before.
Unique features of his pool safety system include:
USA Harken yacht grade pullies
low stretch, polyester double braid yacht grade rope
virgin grade High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) virgin grade netting in 5 mm diameter with added UV stabilization woven specifically for pool nets
cylindrical brass anchors secured with Hilti brand epoxy installed with precision, water-cooled diamond core drilling equipment
exceeds engineering ASTM specification F1346-91 for manual safety covers
Swimming Pool Safety Nets offer the safest solution
Attractive, affordable, and easy to use, our pool safety net covers "lock-off" any water hazard, with minimal inconvenience to remove and reinstall after a swim (only 3 - 5 minutes to take off, max 6 minutes to put back on) Rather like a large tennis racket, the net is pulled tightly over the pool and anchored with flush-mounted brass anchors with stainless steel hooks woven into the edge of the net. Using a system of yacht grade pulleys in the center and a special tool, the final tension of the net is pulled drum-tight (much like a trampoline) locking off the pool preventing children from access to the water surface. The net’s 3.50-inch mesh size is specifically designed to keep a child’s head from ever accessing deep water when properly tensioned.
There is no question that this type of solution is not as convenient as either an auto-retractable cover or fencing. But we believe that the inconvenience of a few minutes before and after a swim is easily balanced with the level of safety that a pool net provides along with the added aesthetics.
As to the choice of installation company you ultimately choose, we highly recommend that your Baby Proof Pool Safety Net cover is fitted and made safe by a qualified installer who knows how to do it right the first time. Long term performance of the net is critical and Baby Proof Pool Safety Systems specializes in the installation of these types of barriers.
Pool nets can protect any shaped water hazard including swimming pools, spas, water features, waterfalls, and ponds. See our picture portfolio for examples.
Baby Proof Pool Safety Systems pool nets are in compliance with the American Society For Testing and Materials (ASTM) under the code F1346-91 for Manual Safety Covers. Please contact us should you need documentation to supply your building department official that ascertains this certification. Pool safety nets have been used for over 30 years here in the United States with a perfect safety record.
We recommend a pool safety net cover as a primary barrier even if a customer plans to include removable mesh fencing. In some instances however owners, upon seeing the net installed, realize the level of protection provided by the pool safety net and forego the installation of the additional removable fencing. However, fencing is a great additional barrier, particularly as a filter during swim time to keep out non-swimmers and family pets.
For other questions you may have, please don’t hesitate to call us. Many people are unfamiliar with these types of devices and it is our goal to outline the pros and cons of net covers versus other solutions(mesh fencing, auto vinyl covers, etc.).
